In Memphis redevelopment, Trader Joe's takes a rehabbed box instead of its own outparcel

In Germantown, Tenn., a Memphis suburb, developer Centennial Properties has decided to shelve plans to build a new outparcel for Trader Joe's at one of its shopping centers. Instead, Trader Joe's will move into an empty Kroger store at the center.

"Part of the reason it feels like this project has gone on foreplays for ver and forever is because of how retail is changing, BrodyGlenn, president of Greenville, S.C.-based Centennial, told The Commercial Appeal. "With online sales and everything else, people just don't need a 60,000 square foot space anymore, so we've had to work hard to figure out how you redevelop this space."
