Luxury stores flee North Carolina mall

Did anyone really expect Charlotte to support an Hermes store for long?

Hermes, MontBlanc and Porsche Design have all shuttered underperforming stores at the city's upscale Southpark Mall in recent months after failing to attract shoppers.

Wonder if North Carolina's bathroom regulations had any influence on the decisions? Probably not, as the mall recently announced nine new retailer openings, including apparel chain Johnny Was. But its worth noting that the center's luxe element has significantly declined.
